Blogging can be compared to the heartbeat of your website working to keep your content and SEO alive! Unlike some social media platforms, blogs have a lasting value and their content is easily recycled for your social media strategy. They are similar to a magazine article with visuals that market your product / service and should consist of a minimum of 300 words to be accepted by Google. With the clever use of key words, they help with your google positioning and enable you to become an aspiring leader in your market increasing your business reputation and communications… They say a blog is created every 2 seconds so is it really necessary for your business to join in the blogging frenzy? The simple answer is “Yes!”.
I have always had a passion for writing and have been blogging for others for almost 10 years now. So, why blog, how can blogging help your business and what do you need to do?
Tell a Story
Show your personality and tell a story in your blogs. This will create an emotional bond with your prospective clients and will be an area of contact that builds on trust with your (prospective) client.
You want every blog you publish to inspire, inform and include key information. Plan your blogging schedule in a 6 month content calendar and focus on your format: personal, technical, interviews and so on. Ensure your blogs target your audience. In fact, ask your audience what they would like you to blog about! The layout and the clarity of content should take your reader on an engaging, unambiguous journey of interest.
Adding or even embedding photos and especially videos can really help your blog increase its reach. Quality images can be optimised to strengthen their impact. It is worth taking a look at mylog: A Creative Journey through Instagram for your Business
There are an ever-increasing number of social media platforms where you can publish your blog. To name a few: LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. Ensure you use relevant #’s and key words:
1. Add a link to your blog on all your social media posts.
2. Schedule your posts so that they’re posted at optimum times using a scheduling tool such as Hootsuite.
3. Share your blogs in social media groups. LinkedIn and Facebook are great for this. If you link your blogs to Google+, your photo will begin to appear next to your Google search results therefore, assisting your ranking level. Ensure you use relevant #’s and key words.
4. Integrate your social media with your blogs – position your social media icons on your website so that your viewer can easily share your post.
5. Don’t be scared of tagging in brands, companies or the famous. My social media poem got retweeted by the Guardian small business page on National Poetry Day!
Reach the global market. You’re just one click away…
Increase Traffic & Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
Even if you don’t regularly update your website, by adding a blog, Google continues to notice the changes and this in turn, exposes your business and expands your reach. Combined with the use of social media, it will increase traffic to your site. You could therefore say that regular blogging can be seen as the heartbeat of your website keeping it alive! Use your own photos / videos in your blogs to make it more personal to you / your business and by also using your own key words, it will increase your Search Engine Optimisation. Ensure these are especially placed in the first paragraph of your blog.
Up to 70% of traffic each month comes from previous posts that are still alive and ranking in the search engines and therefore, blogs will continue to drive traffic and potential customers to your website long after it has been published. You can also promote them at relevant times of the year / for National Awareness Days / topical issues.
Traffic to Lead Conversion
Once you have driven the extra traffic to the landing page of your website, one method of converting this into a lead is by offering a freebie and for this, the person will need to fill out a form with their contact details. The more you blog, the more you will be seen as a leader in your field and this will further increase your traffic, authority in your profession and therefore, business leads.
I write a guest blog for any relevant event I attend and also for fellow entrepreneurs. This can then be promoted and published through your own network and on the website for the subject of your blog / your guest, therefore, instantly getting noticed by another professional network. Ensure your name, contact details and branding are clearly labelled on the guest blog. You could even publish your blogs on other official networking sites such as WiRE.
Blogs are an excellent marketing tool and if you have a series of them focussing on your subject area(s), turn them into an e-book for free! Start small, think big!
Live up to your (domain) name
No matter what the subject of my personal blogs, I will nearly always mention my passion for being creative with my emotions and how I promote this via Social Media Promotions: www.creative-emotions.co.uk
