How to Read Runes

I absolutely love making the Runes I sell in my Creative Emotions Shop on Etsy! Why? The smell of using the pyrography pen in the European Oak discs but also creating Reiki Runes that are going on to help you with your Rune journey.

You will find in your organza bag, 25 Norse Viking Rune Stones aka Futhark Rune Stones with symbols burnt out. Elder Futhark is one of the most widely used Rune alphabets and is also known as the alphabet with the “blank”.

These are used for readings and answering your sub-conscious mind. I have included the blank rune as I feel this is important to accurate readings. I include an overview of the meaning of each rune and my blogs on how to read Runes.

Although not essential, I would advise you to empower the Runes with the four elements: fire, water, earth and air. Use a candle to represent fire, then hold the bag over water, move it through air and blow on them to represent wind. Throughout this process, continue thinking positive thoughts, it is the intention of your use of the Runes that is key. If you don’t use them for a long time, you may want to re-energise them with the energies of the sun and moon so leave them outside for 24 hours. Polymer clay is waterproof and weatherproof.

Interestingly, the word ‘rune’ means mystery or secret and they are an oracle reading system that’s used to provide an insight into situations and answer questions. Runes are older than the Old Testament and The Vikings used them as a guide to the Spirit and to the Self. Runes can be made of any material and are commonly made out of stone / wood.

For stronger energies, you can carry / wear a Rune which will attract the energies that you would like in your life.

There are many ways to read Runes, as a brief introduction, I have written instructions for two of the most common readings.

1. Drawing the Runes

2. Casting of the Runes

1. Drawing the Runes

Keep the runes in the bag they came in or in a bag of your choice and shake / mix them up gently. Whoever is reading them needs to think about the past, the present or the future. As you focus on your intention, close your eyes, concentrate on what you want an answer for and chose a rune from the bag as your answer with your non-dominant hand.

Or take out / draw out three Runes. The first one is connected to the past, the second to the present and the third to the future.

2. Casting of the Runes

This is the most common method of Rune reading. First mix them up in their bag and if you are right handed, rest the bag in the palm of your left hand and focus on your question. Use your left hand if you are right-handed and your right hand if you are left-handed. Then tip them out onto a cushion / soft surface. Those facing upwards will provide you with the Runes to be read – vibrations will be sent through your sub-conscious into the Runes. The more you focus, the better the reading. Line all of the upward facing Runes into a line and whilst thinking of the question, move your hand along them, hovering above, and when you feel it is time to stop, gently touch the Rune. This will provide you with an answer to your question.

NB If you draw the blank Rune, it is associated with your own deep thoughts and represents fate and destiny.

There are many other ways to read your Runes and it takes a long time to master but hopefully, this is a good introduction for you…
